EFCC senior officer accused of corruption and unexplained wealth

A senior Assistant Commander (ACE) within Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is facing allegations of extensive corruption, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth. The accusations were detailed in a six-page petition submitted on July 9, 2026, to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede by the Network for Justice Association of Nigeria (NJAN).

The petition, signed by NJAN President Adedeji Sunday Ajala, outlines 21 specific allegations against the officer. These include extortion, interference with investigations, unauthorized access to financial intelligence, and the acquisition of assets that appear inconsistent with the officer's official income.

These claims emerge as the EFCC faces increased scrutiny regarding internal misconduct, including a separate investigation into a sectional head involving $400,000. While Chairman Olukoyede has advocated for a zero-tolerance policy and internal cleansing to maintain the agency's credibility, the petition targets an officer reportedly close to the Commission’s leadership.
