Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital faces dialysis machine shortage
Patients at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Takoradi are experiencing a medical crisis following the breakdown of two dialysis machines. With only one machine remaining operational, the facility is struggling to serve a growing number of patients from across the Western Region.
To accommodate the high volume of people, medical staff have reportedly reduced dialysis sessions from the standard three to four hours down to just two hours. Patients traveling from communities such as Aboadze, Tarkwa, Bogoso, Prestea, Asankragwa, and Half Assini have reported being stranded at the hospital for days.
Affected individuals have expressed concerns regarding deteriorating health conditions, specifically citing increased fluid accumulation and swelling. Some patients have reportedly been sleeping on the hospital premises while waiting for their scheduled sessions.
