EFKA urges Greeks to verify missing pension contributions online

Thousands of Greek workers approaching retirement have discovered that some of their insurance periods, particularly those recorded before 2002 on paper, are missing from the EFKA (Social Insurance Institute) database. The gap can delay pension payouts or affect eligibility. EFKA has launched dedicated online tools that let insured persons view a summary and detailed insurance history, identify absent periods, and request recognition of the missing time. If a gap is found for any period up to December 31 2001, the individual must submit a request through the “Individual Insurance Account” portal, providing personal identifiers and supporting documents such as adjacent insurance books, health booklets, or employment proof. EFKA then reviews the evidence and issues a decision, which is communicated to both the applicant and the pension authority. Officials stress that applicants should not wait until the last moment, as early verification can prevent significant delays in pension issuance.
