EFLU students injured in ABVP-NSUI clash in Hyderabad
A violent clash between members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad has left at least seven students injured.
The conflict reportedly escalated following a protest by ABVP members at a women’s hostel on August 13. NSUI members alleged that ABVP cadres used casteist slurs and attacked students with iron rods, bamboo sticks, and bottles in a men’s hostel during the early hours of August 14. Conversely, the ABVP claimed their protest was a peaceful response to a hostel warden’s conduct toward female students and that NSUI members attempted to disrupt their demonstration.
Police at the Osmania University station registered cases based on complaints from both sides. Fourteen individuals were taken into custody; seven ABVP members were sent to judicial custody, while seven NSUI members were arrested and subsequently granted station bail.
