EFOR project empowers rural women in Tunisia

To mark Tunisian National Women's Day on August 13, the French Embassy in Tunisia highlighted the EFOR project, an initiative designed to promote the economic and social empowerment of rural women. The project, titled ‘Emancipation of women and rural organizations in Tunisia,’ is implemented by Expertise France and funded by the Agence française de développement (AFD) with 4.5 million euros.

Running from March 2023 to February 2027, EFOR operates in the governorates of Béja, Kasserine, and Gafsa. The program provides technical training to female farmers, focusing on the transformation of aromatic and medicinal plants as well as the valorization of dates to improve product commercialization.

In Gafsa, the El Aguila female agricultural development group, which includes over twenty women, has benefited from these training sessions. Participants have reported improved skills in product processing, leading to higher quality goods and professional recognition, including several awards for their work.
