EFPIA supports EU Cloud and AI Development Act to boost drug R&D
The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) has expressed support for the European Commission’s proposed Cloud and AI Development Act (CADA). The industry group emphasizes that expanding access to advanced cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence can accelerate drug research and development, optimize clinical trial design, and improve manufacturing processes.
EFPIA advocates for increasing Europe’s computing capacity and reducing barriers to digital innovation to bolster the continent's competitiveness and technological leadership. However, the federation stresses that the final regulatory framework must maintain global connectivity, interoperability, and openness to ensure that scientific collaboration and international pharmaceutical R&D are not hindered.
The organization also highlights the potential for synergies with the European Health Data Space (EHDS) to facilitate the secure secondary use of data for scientific research.
