EFTA and Kosovo Free Trade Agreement to take effect October 2026

A Free Trade Agreement between the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and Kosovo is set to enter into force on October 1, 2026. The agreement involves EFTA member states Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

The pact aims to deepen economic ties, increase legal certainty, and facilitate trade in goods and services. It covers various aspects including rules of origin, technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, intellectual property protection, and competition. For Swiss exports to Kosovo, certain customs tariffs will be removed following specific transitional periods.

In 2025, bilateral trade in goods between Switzerland and Kosovo reached approximately 175 million francs. Authorities expect the new agreement to enhance economic planning and improve access to the Kosovar market for EFTA goods and services.
