Egan Bernal denies retirement rumors, plans to compete next season

Colombian professional cyclist Egan Bernal has addressed recent rumors regarding his potential retirement from the sport. In a statement shared on Instagram, the 29-year-old rider clarified that he intends to compete in the upcoming season and noted that he remains under contract with INEOS Grenadiers through 2029.

Bernal explained that his recent absence from competition following the Tour de France was a deliberate choice to rest, relax, and regain mental calm. While he plans to return next season, he expressed uncertainty about the long-term future of his career, stating that his continued participation depends on maintaining the physical and mental strength necessary to make a meaningful impact.

The rumors of retirement followed a period of significant personal and professional challenges for Bernal, including a life-threatening cycling accident in 2022. Since his recovery, he has worked to return to elite competition, though he has faced the challenge of competing against a new generation of high-performing riders.
