Egan Bernal involved in traffic accident in Bogotá

Professional cyclist Egan Bernal, winner of the 2019 Tour de France, was involved in a traffic accident in northern Bogotá during the early hours of Saturday, August 22. The collision, which occurred around 02:00 in the Zona T area, involved a Tesla driven by Bernal and a taxi. Both vehicles sustained lateral impacts.

Controversy arose after Bernal left the scene of the accident, later moving the Tesla to a public parking lot. The taxi driver tracked the vehicle and contacted the police, but officers reportedly could not intervene because the car was located on private property.

There are currently conflicting accounts regarding responsibility for the crash. While the taxi driver has expressed that his primary concern is not seeking financial compensation for repairs, he has indicated he expects an apology from the Colombian cyclist.
