Eger expands cycling tourism with new marathon and adventure routes
Eger is expanding its role as a hub for cycling tourism with two major developments. The Eger Marathon Challenge, scheduled for September 12, 2026, will feature a unique route starting in Érsekkert and finishing within the walls of Eger Castle. The event includes a 1 million HUF prize pool, and the award ceremony will also take place at the castle. Participants receive entry to the castle as part of their registration.
Additionally, the Horizont cycling adventure tour has introduced five new sections that include the Eger region. These new routes connect various landscapes in the North Hungarian Mountains, including the Bükk and Mátra ranges, and allow cyclists to reach Hungary’s highest point at Kékes. The project, a collaboration between the Hungarian Cycling Tourism Association, KLND, and Aktív Magyarország, aims to expand the total route to approximately 1,500 kilometers by spring 2027.
