Egg prices in Caracas rise to nearly $7 per carton
The price of a 24-unit carton of eggs in Caracas has risen significantly, increasing by more than 51% in US dollars over a two-month period. In municipal markets such as Quinta Crespo and Guaicaipuro, the price climbed from $4.60 in July to $6.96 in September.
In local currency, the price increase was even more pronounced, rising 86.40% from Bs. 3,155.32 to Bs. 5,881.62. Consumers and merchants attribute this surge to inflation, distribution costs, and the disparity between official and parallel exchange rates.
Due to high costs and reduced wages, some residents have adapted by purchasing smaller quantities, such as half-cartons, dozens, or individual units from local shops to manage their budgets.
