Eggtronic unveils GaN-powered 140W USB-C reference platform
Eggtronic has announced a 140W USB-C Power Delivery AC/DC reference platform designed for high-performance devices and premium laptops. Developed using Renesas’ high-voltage Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistors, the platform aims to provide high efficiency and cost-effectiveness through a simplified system architecture.
The design utilizes Eggtronic’s EPIC combo controller alongside the Renesas TP70H150G4LSG device. The company claims the platform can achieve efficiencies approaching 96 percent, maintaining the bill of materials cost of traditional QR flyback converters while avoiding more expensive topologies like LLC or Active Clamp Flyback.
The technology includes a Totem Pole Power Factor Correction (PFC) stage and a proprietary QuarEgg regenerative flyback architecture. This setup is intended to address common limitations in EMI performance and light-load efficiency while meeting DOE Level VII energy efficiency requirements.
