Egon Kis Ervin, Hungarian e-commerce pioneer, dies at 61

Egon Kis Ervin, a prominent figure in Hungary’s digital economy and e-commerce sector, passed away on August 7, 2026, following a serious illness. He was 61 years old.

Kis was a pioneer in the Hungarian online retail market, having founded netpiac.hu in 1999. He served as the president of the Association for Electronic Commerce (SZEK, now Ecommerce Hungary) from 2008 to 2014. His strategic contributions were also instrumental to the growth of szamlazz.hu.

In more recent years, he transitioned into the fintech sector as a co-founder and strategic director of BinX, the country’s first corporate-focused neobank. He also led SmartCommerce Consulting, supporting digital transformations for various companies. In 2024, he received a lifetime achievement award for his decades of work in developing the e-commerce profession.
