Egremont to receive nearly £10 million for regeneration scheme
A regeneration scheme totaling nearly £10 million is set to begin in Egremont, West Cumbria. The investment aims to revitalize the town through three primary projects: the creation of a business and community hub, the redevelopment of the Florence Arts Centre, and various connectivity improvements.
The community space, located on the former Red Lion Hotel site, will feature over 1,600 square metres of public space, including a multi-use wellbeing building, four workshops, and two retail units. The Florence Arts Centre redevelopment will include a new performance space, cafe, heritage area, and artists' studio, alongside the conservation of historic Florence Mine buildings.
Funding for the project is provided by several sources, including the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Fund, which allocated an initial £3 million. Additional match-funding has been secured from Sellafield Ltd, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the Decommissioning Nuclear Waste Partnership, and the Copeland Community Fund, bringing the total investment to approximately £9.74 million.
