Eguisheim: An Alsatian medieval village with concentric architecture

Eguisheim, a medieval village in Alsace located near Colmar, is distinguished by its unique concentric urban design. The village is organized into three circular rings that expand outward from the octagonal castle of the Counts of Eguisheim-Dabo, built around 1227.

This architectural layout creates a spiral-like experience for visitors, where narrow cobblestone streets and colorful half-timbered houses in shades of ochre, pink, and blue line the winding paths. The village is recognized as one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of France’ and was voted a favorite by French citizens in 2013.
