Egypt accelerates renewable energy and infrastructure projects

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and key ministers to review the progress of national energy and infrastructure strategies. A primary focus was the 200-megawatt wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez, part of an initiative to increase the renewable energy share in Egypt’s energy mix to 45% by 2028. To support this, the Ministry of Electricity has signed a contract for a new 500 kV overhead transmission line to transport wind energy to consumption areas.

The meeting also addressed the expansion of battery energy storage systems (BESS), green hydrogen projects, and seawater desalination efforts, including a planned complex in El-Dabaa. Additionally, officials reviewed developments in local manufacturing for black sands and rare elements.

In a separate development, Prime Minister Madbouly met with representatives from the UAE’s Modon Holding to monitor the implementation of the Ras El Hekma project. This urban and tourism development on the North Coast serves as a strategic investment partnership between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister met with Dr. Yasmine Fuad, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, to discuss Egypt’s preparations to host the COP18 summit in 2028.
