Egypt acquires two new bulk carriers from China

Egypt's National Navigation Company has officially taken delivery of two new Kamsarmax-class bulk carriers, the ‘Wadi El Nile’ and ‘Wadi El Qamar’, from the New Hantong Shipyard in China.

Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir attended the handover ceremony in China. The acquisition is part of a national strategy to modernize Egypt's commercial fleet and transform the country into a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade.

Both vessels feature a deadweight tonnage of 82,000 tons, a length of 229 meters, and a width of 32.26 meters. They are equipped with advanced technologies, including MAN B&W engines with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce emissions, ballast water management systems, and integrated navigation and communication tools. The ships are designed for high operational efficiency and can sail continuously for up to 90 days due to their large fuel capacity.
