Egypt advances Cairo Metro Line 4 construction

Egypt's Ministry of Transport has released updates regarding the first phase of the Cairo Metro Line 4 project. The project aims to expand the nation's green and sustainable mass transit network.

For the first time in Egypt, six tunnel boring machines are being utilized simultaneously to construct the tunnels. The first part of this phase, spanning from Hadayek Al Ashgar to Al Masaha, is being handled by four machines. Progress has been reported with one machine reaching the Pyramids station and another reaching Al Masaha Square.

The second part of the phase, extending from Al Masaha to Al Fustat, is being executed using two additional machines. The total length of this phase is 19 km, consisting of 17 stations (16 underground and one surface station). The route connects various key locations, including the Grand Egyptian Museum, Al Remaya, Al Haram Street, Giza, and Al Fustat.

Construction and electromechanical works are being carried out by a group of national Egyptian companies, including Arab Contractors, Orascom Construction, Concord, Petrojet, and Hassan Allam Construction. Systems and track work are being managed by a Mitsubishi/Orascom alliance, with Mitsubishi also supplying 23 train units for the project.
