Egypt advances plan to connect Cyprus gas fields to its pipeline network

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, met with senior executives of Exxon Mobil—including Deputy President Kenan Nareiman and Egypt Exploration & Production head Diya Sohail—in New Alamein. The talks focused on implementing a recently signed memorandum of understanding between the ministry, Exxon Mobil and Qatar Energy, which was witnessed by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly.

The agreement aims to maximise the use of Egypt's extensive natural‑gas infrastructure to transport and re‑export gas discovered in Cyprus. Projects under discussion include the Kronos field partnership with ENI and TotalEnergies, the Aphrodite field with Chevron, and further collaborations with Exxon Mobil and Qatar Energy. Participants highlighted the rapid formation of joint committees, clear technical and commercial study schedules, and the goal of turning cooperation into concrete projects that add economic value for Egypt, Cyprus and their partners.

The minister invited Exxon Mobil leaders to attend the upcoming Mediterranean Basin conference (MOC) in October to explore Egypt's gas‑handling capabilities and further investment opportunities.
