Egypt aims to expand agricultural land to 12 million feddans by 2030

Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, announced targets to increase the country's agricultural land to over 12 million feddans by 2030, up from the current 10.5 million feddans. This expansion follows an increase from 9 million feddans in 2014, driven by land reclamation projects and horizontal expansion in collaboration with the Future of Egypt Agency for Sustainable Development.

The Ministry also aims to boost agricultural exports to exceed 10 million tons by 2030. In 2026, exports reached approximately 9.3 million tons, a significant increase from 4.3 million tons in 2014. Egyptian agricultural products currently reach approximately 160 international markets, with total export values for fresh and processed products reaching $11.5 billion.

To support these goals, the Ministry is focusing on water-efficient farming practices, aiming to increase the area using guided water practices to 3.4 million feddans by 2030. Additionally, the government is implementing farm coding systems—covering 280,000 feddans—to enhance traceability, food safety, and organic farming standards to meet international requirements.
