Egypt and Burkina Faso strengthen security and economic cooperation

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Burkinabe Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré met in Cairo to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security, defense, and economics.

A primary focus of the discussions was combating terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel region. Both officials advocated for a comprehensive approach that combines security measures with socio-economic development to address the root causes of instability. They specifically emphasized the need to “dry up” the sources of terrorist financing.

On the economic front, an Egyptian-Burkinabe business forum was held concurrently with the visit to boost trade and investment. The leaders expressed a desire to translate diplomatic momentum into concrete commercial projects.

Additionally, the talks touched upon capacity-building programs involving national institutions and Al-Azhar, as well as cooperation in health, education, and culture. The meeting also addressed regional stability, particularly in light of Burkina Faso’s presidency of the Confederation of Sahel States.
