The Group G clash between Egypt and Iran at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played on 27 June at Lumen Field in Seattle. The city’s local organising committee has labelled the game a “Pride Match” because it falls on Seattle’s long‑running Pride weekend. Both nations, where homosexuality is criminalised, have protested the designation and asked FIFA to ban rainbow‑coloured flags and other LGBTQ + symbols from the stadium.

FIFA responded that such flags are permitted under the tournament’s stadium code of conduct, stating “The FIFA World Cup 2026 is an inclusive event that welcomes people from all backgrounds.” The governing body also clarified that the Pride celebrations are organised by external local groups, not by FIFA, and reiterated that there is no official “Pride Match” on the World Cup schedule.

The match will be refereed by Polish official Szymon Marciniak, with Egyptian coach Hossam Hassan saying the team’s focus remains on the football itself. Seattle organisers continue to promote the event as a platform for visibility and tolerance, while the disputing federations maintain their cultural‑religious objections.
