Egypt and Jordan urge US-Iran dialogue to stabilize region

On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, officials from Egypt and Jordan have called for renewed diplomatic dialogue to de-escalate regional tensions, specifically focusing on the relationship between the United States and Iran.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi. Abdelatty emphasized that returning to negotiations is the only way to end the current crisis and protect the global economy by ensuring freedom of navigation in strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also held meetings, including one with Abbas Araghchi. Safadi called for a sustainable ceasefire and a comprehensive solution to regional tensions based on international law and the principle of non-interference. He condemned Iranian attacks on Jordan and Gulf Cooperation Council countries, asserting that Jordan will take all necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and citizens. Safadi also highlighted the importance of maritime freedom in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
