Egypt and Sudan discuss power grid rehabilitation
Egypt and Sudan are advancing cooperation to rehabilitate Sudan’s electrical networks and enhance energy infrastructure. Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, met with Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Dr. Al-Moatasem Ibrahim Ahmed Ali, to discuss technical support and capacity building.
A primary focus of the discussions is the second phase of the Egypt-Sudan electrical interconnection project, specifically the “Toshka 2/Wadi Halfa” double-circuit line with a capacity of 300 MW. The cooperation aims to address infrastructure damage caused by recent sabotage and to provide essential electricity to residential, industrial, and agricultural areas in Sudan.
The partnership includes plans to rehabilitate hydroelectric, thermal, and transformer stations. Additionally, Egypt will provide training programs and technical expertise to Sudanese work teams to improve the efficiency of electrical systems and modernize the national infrastructure.
