Egypt and U.S. officials discuss Gaza ceasefire and regional stability

Egyptian officials and U.S. intelligence leadership have emphasized the importance of regional stability and the Gaza ceasefire. During a meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, CIA Director John Ratcliffe praised Egypt’s pivotal role in mediating a ceasefire in Gaza and supporting peace processes. Ratcliffe also noted the strong cooperation between the CIA and Egyptian intelligence regarding counter-terrorism and combating organized crime. The discussions also touched upon the crisis in Sudan, with President el-Sisi reaffirming Egypt’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Separately, during a meeting of eight Arab and Islamic nations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty called for the full implementation of peace plans in Gaza to prevent the undermining of ceasefire efforts. Abdelatty stressed the need for all parties, including Israel, to avoid violations and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. He also reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people and condemned settlement expansion in the West Bank.
