Egypt and Uzbekistan discuss water resource and irrigation cooperation
Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, met with the Uzbek Ambassador to Cairo, Mansorbek Kilichev, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in water resources, irrigation, and sustainable development.
The discussions focused on activating a memorandum of understanding between the two nations through practical projects and a joint working group roadmap. Minister Sewilam highlighted Egypt's ‘Water 2.0’ vision, which emphasizes digital transformation, artificial intelligence, smart irrigation, and climate change adaptation. He also proposed increased collaboration between the National Water Research Center and Uzbek research institutions.
Ambassador Kilichev expressed Uzbekistan's interest in utilizing Egyptian expertise in modern water management technologies, noting that both countries face similar water challenges. The meeting also covered preparations for an upcoming high-level Uzbek delegation visit to Egypt and coordination within international water forums. Sewilam emphasized the importance of adhering to international water laws, including the principles of non-harm and prior consultation among riparian states.
