Egypt announces services for deaf and hard of hearing citizens

To mark the International Day of Sign Languages, Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity has announced several initiatives to support individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. In collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, certain identification documents, travel documents, and work permits will be issued free of charge for one week to those holding integrated disability service cards.

The Ministry of Social Solidarity also highlighted its ongoing support through 125 language centers nationwide, which have served over 12,000 beneficiaries. These services include early detection, hearing measurement, and linguistic skill development. Additionally, six specialized institutions provide vocational training and rehabilitation to help integrate hearing-impaired individuals into the labor market. Other support measures include providing medical hearing aids through supervised non-governmental organizations and conducting medical convoys to reach those in need.
