Egypt approves military assistance for Saudi Arabia

The Egyptian Parliament has approved a request from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia. This decision follows an increase in attacks by Houthi rebels, who are allies of Iran, against Saudi Arabian territory.

According to reports, the House of Representatives granted President el-Sisi the authority to take necessary measures to support the Kingdom. The move aims to demonstrate solidarity with Saudi Arabia and provide essential defense against Houthi incursions that have targeted oil installations and airports.

The escalation of Houthi activities in the Bab al-Mandab strait poses a significant threat to the Suez Canal and global maritime trade. While Egypt has previously condemned attacks on Gulf nations, this parliamentary approval increases the likelihood of Egypt becoming directly involved in the regional conflict.
