Egypt approves new PPP infrastructure projects and solar energy deals
The Egyptian government has approved several new public-private partnership (PPP) projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and services. During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the Higher Committee for PPP Affairs greenlit projects including an industrial wastewater treatment plant in the El-Raswa Industrial Zone in Port Said, a seawater desalination plant in Suez with a capacity of one million cubic metres per day, and the operation of the Hadayek El-Assema transformer station and its electricity networks.
In a separate development, financing agreements were signed for the $650 million Dandara solar power project in Qena Governorate. The project, which includes 1,000 megawatts of capacity and battery storage, involves the Norwegian company Scatec and is supported by the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the African Development Bank. The initiative aims to provide electricity for Egypt Aluminium, reducing carbon emissions and supporting the country’s transition to clean energy.
Additionally, the Prime Minister reviewed progress on the second edition of the State Ownership Policy document, which seeks to increase private sector participation and improve the efficiency of state-owned enterprises.
