Egypt authorities seize endangered wildlife in Alexandria markets

Egypt's Ministry of Local Development and Environment, in coordination with environmental police, has launched weekly raids on markets in Alexandria to combat the illegal sale of endangered wildlife.

Following reports from social media and official channels, authorities inspected the Souq al-Jumaa area in western Alexandria. The investigation confirmed the presence of various endangered species being sold without licenses, including falcons, reptiles, and snakes. These activities violate Egyptian environmental law and the CITES international agreement.

The seized animals have been transferred to the Alexandria Zoo for care pending a decision by the public prosecution. Officials reminded the public that possessing, hunting, or selling protected species is an environmental crime under Egyptian law.
