Egypt authorities seize unsafe biscuits using coal instead of cocoa

Authorities in Kafr Shukr, Egypt, have uncovered an unlicensed biscuit factory producing unsafe food products. During an inspection, officials discovered that the facility was using E153 vegetable coal instead of cocoa in its products.

Approximately 1.8 tons of non-compliant products and raw materials were seized, including 100 kilograms of expired glucose and 30 kilograms of Royal brand butter. Additionally, inspectors confiscated 50 crates of biscuits produced under the name ‘Oreo’ and another 1,100 kilograms of biscuits intended for reprocessing. Some of these products were reportedly prepared for use in ice cream production.

The factory was found to be operating without a license and lacked invoices for several raw materials. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those responsible.
