Egypt authorizes surplus sugar exports through 2026

Egypt has authorized the export of all types of sugar through the end of 2026, provided that exports are limited to quantities exceeding domestic market needs. According to Ministerial Decree No. 225 of 2026, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade will determine the specific surplus amounts, and each export operation requires approval from the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade.

This decision marks a shift from previous export bans intended to secure local supplies and maintain strategic reserves. The move aims to allow sugar producers to convert surplus stock into liquidity and access international markets. Industry experts note that while production is expected to reach approximately 2.3 million tons in 2026, the sector faces challenges including high interest rates, liquidity pressures, and the need for pricing mechanisms that balance production costs with market stability.
