Egypt captures 22% of Africa's foreign direct investment inflows

Egypt has emerged as a leading destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) in Africa, capturing approximately 22% of the continent's total FDI inflows. According to Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh, FDI in Egypt reached approximately $15.5 billion in 2025, with cumulative FDI rising from $94 billion in 2015 to $221 billion in 2025.

This growth is supported by significant infrastructure development, with investments totaling roughly $550 billion over the last 15 years covering transport, energy, and logistics. Additionally, the Egyptian economy is seeing a structural shift toward private sector leadership; the private sector's share of total investment has increased from 35-40% in 2014 to approximately 65% currently.

Complementing these figures, Member of Parliament Emad El-Ghoneimy noted that FDI reached $13.2 billion during the first nine months of the current year. This upward trend follows $12.2 billion recorded last year. Officials emphasize that continuing economic reforms and simplifying business procedures are essential to attracting sustainable investment in high-value sectors such as industry, tourism, and information technology.
