Egypt coach Ibrahim Hassan outlines World Cup exit and league reform plan

Ibrahim Hassan, manager of the Egypt national football team, said the squad’s departure at the 2026 World Cup after a 1‑0 loss to Argentina in the round of 16 was caused by circumstances beyond the team’s control. He noted the strict camp discipline, limited family visits and efforts to shield players from external pressure, and mentioned receiving supportive messages from international football stars.

He also presented a comprehensive development project for Egyptian football, proposing to reduce the domestic league to 18 clubs and to phase out foreign players gradually. Hassan argued that a stable, shorter schedule – aligning the league’s calendar with European and Arab competitions – would give Egyptian players more rest and improve national‑team performance. He thanked the Egyptian Football Association and club leaders for their backing of the plan.
