Egypt coastal destinations: Marsa Matruh and Marsa Alam

Egypt offers diverse coastal destinations for travelers, ranging from the Mediterranean shores of Marsa Matruh to the Red Sea resorts of Marsa Alam.

Marsa Matruh, located in northwestern Egypt near Alexandria, is known as the ‘Egyptian Maldives’ due to its turquoise waters and bright sandy beaches. Notable sites in the area include Agiba Beach and Cleopatra Beach, the latter of which features a natural rock basin known as Cleopatra’s Bath. The region also holds historical significance, as it was traveled by Alexander the Great.

In contrast, Marsa Alam on the Red Sea is a destination for those interested in marine life and snorkeling. The Swisstouch Oriental Resort is one such location, offering an all-inclusive experience with direct access to coral reefs. While Marsa Matruh is characterized by wide sandy bays, Marsa Alam provides access to underwater ecosystems, though visitors are advised to use protective footwear when entering the water due to the presence of reefs.
