Egypt completes North Safa offshore phase as Qatar moves to restart LNG exports
Egyptian offshore services firm Petroleum Marine Services (PMS) announced the successful completion of marine works for the second phase of the North Safa oil field development in the Gulf of Suez. The work included installing a 306‑ton production deck, a 128‑ton helideck and related equipment on the offshore platform, using PMS vessels 12 and 17. The project, part of the Ministry of Petroleum’s strategy to boost crude output, follows the earlier installation of the main platform and two subsea pipelines.
In the Gulf region, Qatar has begun steps to resume LNG shipments through the Strait of Hormuz after a period of suspension caused by security incidents. Tracking data showed a Qatar LNG carrier departing the Ras Laffan export terminal and heading toward the strait, while two empty tankers approached the eastern entrance via Omani waters. The restart aims to alleviate global gas supply shortages, with Qatar targeting full production from undamaged units within weeks.
