Egypt concludes aquaculture training program for seven African nations

The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has concluded an extensive two-month training program titled ‘Developing Fish Farms to Achieve Food Security in Africa.’ Implemented by the Egyptian International Center for Agriculture and Foreign Agricultural Relations in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, the program hosted 10 trainees from seven African nations: Somalia, Benin, Tanzania, Togo, Rwanda, Guinea, and Nigeria.

The training provided a comprehensive curriculum combining theoretical and practical aspects, including field visits to specialized fish hatcheries and farms across various Egyptian governorates. Participants focused on monosex fish production techniques, economic feasibility studies, and efficient project management to enhance regional aquaculture production.

In broader efforts to support agricultural development and food security, Minister Alaa Farouk has also engaged in international diplomacy, including meetings in Madrid to discuss agricultural partnerships with Spanish officials. Domestically, the ministry has approved new funding for the national veal project, totaling over 80 million Egyptian pounds, to support small-scale livestock breeders and enhance animal wealth.
