Egypt confirms death of captain after ship attack near Russia

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of an Egyptian captain following an attack on the cargo ship ‘Nouran’ near a port in southwestern Russia. The ministry also announced that eight Egyptian sailors have been successfully repatriated to Egypt.

The incident occurred last Sunday near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. While the Egyptian government has not identified the party responsible for the attack, Russian media outlets, including RT, reported that the vessel was targeted by an intensive aerial strike involving six Ukrainian drones shortly after departing the port.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty instructed the embassy in Moscow to provide consular support and monitor the situation. The ministry stated that efforts are underway to recover the captain's body and transport it to Egypt once the security situation in the active military zone stabilizes.
