Egypt denies WSJ claim Iran behind Damietta port blast
Egyptian Information Minister Zia al‑Rashwan rejected a Wall Street Journal report that cited anonymous sources accusing Iran of responsibility for the explosion at the Damietta port. He said “there are no unknown sources in Egypt” and that official information is released only through state channels.
Al‑Rashwan stressed that the government is handling the incident with full transparency and that the determination of responsibility will be made only after the official investigation is completed. He also noted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghaji’s denial of Tehran’s involvement, adding that Egypt’s official stance will be based solely on the investigation’s findings.
The incident involved a fire on a gas‑carrier vessel and a storage ship at the port, with the Ministry of Oil confirming no casualties and that emergency teams were deployed to contain the situation and assess any further impact.
