Egypt discusses local climate action plans for Qena and Kafr El Sheikh

Egypt's Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, met via video conference with the governors of Qena and Kafr El Sheikh to discuss a proposed local climate change action plan and roadmap for both governorates.

The project is being implemented in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the National Solid Waste Management Program, and the European Union's Green Initiative. The plan aligns with Egypt's National Climate Change Strategy 2050 and Vision 2030.

Key objectives include integrating climate response into local development paths to protect vital sectors and public services. The plan focuses on climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience through improved energy and water efficiency, climate-smart agriculture, and the circular economy. It also aims to enhance governance, data exchange, and monitoring systems to prepare projects for climate financing and support the transition of these governorates into green regions.
