Egypt Education Minister meets with 1,000 school leaders
Egypt's Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, held an extensive meeting at Qena University with approximately 1,000 school principals and educational leaders from several governorates, including Qena, Sohag, Luxor, Aswan, New Valley, and the Red Sea. The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year.
A primary focus of the discussion was improving literacy rates. The Minister noted that the ministry has successfully reduced the percentage of primary school students struggling with reading and writing from approximately 45% to 13%, with a long-term goal of reaching zero. He emphasized that there is no justification for students to progress through grades without mastering these fundamental skills and called for targeted remedial programs.
Additionally, the Minister addressed school discipline and the importance of the school environment. He stressed the need for strict adherence to educational regulations and instructed officials to take immediate action regarding the damage of school property, holding students and parents responsible for repairs to foster a sense of accountability.
