Egypt evaluates participation in Mecca Defense Agreement

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has addressed Cairo's position regarding the Mecca Defense Agreement, a joint defense pact involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. During a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Cairo, Abdelatty stated that Egypt is monitoring developments within this quadripartite framework.

Abdelatty emphasized that any decision to join new defense arrangements would be subject to in-depth institutional study, ensuring compliance with the Egyptian constitution and the state's legal obligations. He noted that Egypt has been aware of the initiative since its inception and that relevant state institutions are currently evaluating the legal, technical, and constitutional aspects of the agreement.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed hope that Egypt would become a strategic partner within this framework. The discussions also touched upon broader regional security initiatives, including Red Sea security, amidst evolving regional challenges.
