Egypt executes major debt settlements and land regularization

Egypt is implementing large-scale financial settlements and land regularization efforts to restructure its economy and resolve historical debts. Between June 2025 and August 2026, the government collected approximately 26 billion Egyptian pounds (roughly 500 million USD) through land regularization agreements with private entities along the Mediterranean's North Coast. These settlements involve properties located between kilometer 120 and 222 of the Alexandria-Matrouh coastal highway, part of a state initiative to integrate coastal developments into the formal economy.

In a separate major financial move, a tripartite agreement was signed to settle 102.75 billion Egyptian pounds in debt owed by the Industrial and Mining Projects Authority (IMPA) to the National Investment Bank (NIB). The settlement, involving the Ministries of Planning and Economic Development, Finance, and Industry, includes an exemption of 51 billion pounds in late-payment penalties. The resolution will be managed through cash payments from the Ministry of Finance and the transfer of state-owned assets to the NIB. This follows a broader trend of resolving debts owed to the NIB, with total settlements exceeding 400 billion pounds to date.
