Egypt executes two men for the murder of Dr. Osama Sabour

Egyptian authorities have executed the death sentences for Ahmed Shehta and Ahmed Farag for the 2023 murder of Dr. Osama Sabour, widely known as the ‘Sahel doctor’. The executions followed the rejection of appeals by the Court of Cassation.

Investigations revealed that the perpetrators lured Dr. Sabour to a residence under the pretense of an urgent home medical visit requested by a female accomplice, lawyer Eman Saleh. Once there, the defendants incapacitated the doctor with sedatives, moved him to a clinic via wheelchair, and held him captive in a pre-prepared pit. The suspects demanded a $200,000 ransom from the victim's family.

Dr. Sabour died due to respiratory and circulatory failure caused by excessive doses of narcotics and prolonged deprivation of food and water. The crime was discovered after a foul odor emanated from the clinic, leading to the recovery of the body, which had been buried under ceramic tiling. While Shehta and Farag were executed, Eman Saleh received a 15-year rigorous prison sentence for her role in the abduction.
