Egypt expands natural gas connectivity in Upper Egypt
The Egyptian Cabinet has highlighted significant expansion in natural gas network connectivity across Upper Egypt as part of national efforts to develop the petroleum sector and support economic growth.
Between 2009 and June 2026, natural gas was connected to more than 2.2 million residential customers, approximately 9,432 commercial customers, and 202 industrial facilities. During the 2025/2026 period, over 146,000 new residential customers were added, with a target to add more than 179,000 residential customers during the 2026/2027 period.
As part of the ‘Decent Life’ national project for rural development, gas networks have been extended to 374 villages in the first phase, with gas already supplied to 328 of those villages, representing an 88% completion rate. The infrastructure includes more than 30 main pressure reduction stations and over 750 sub-distribution stations.
