Egypt Extends Eid al‑Adha Holiday and Announces 2026 Public Holiday Schedule
The Egyptian government has extended the Eid al‑Adha public holiday for two additional days, shifting the return to work from the originally scheduled Friday, 29 May 2026, to Monday, 1 June 2026. The extension, announced by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, means the holiday now ends on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
The official calendar for the remainder of 2026 lists five more paid holidays: the Islamic New Year on Wednesday 17 June 2026 (expected to be moved to Thursday 18 June to align with the weekend), the June 30 revolution anniversary on Tuesday 30 June 2026, the July 23 revolution anniversary on Thursday 23 July 2026, the Prophet’s Birthday on Wednesday 26 August 2026, and the October 6 victory day on Tuesday 6 October 2026. The schedule aims to combine mid‑week holidays with weekends to facilitate travel and leisure for citizens.
