Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority holds workshop on non-banking financial activities
The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) of Egypt, led by Chairman Dr. Islam Azzam, organized a workshop for economic journalists and media professionals to discuss developments in non-banking financial activities. The session focused on capital markets, insurance, and non-banking finance, aiming to enhance media awareness regarding investor protection and safe investment paths.
A key highlight of the workshop was a lecture on the upcoming launch of the “short selling” mechanism on the Egyptian Exchange. Dr. Azzam detailed the new regulatory framework, which aims to overcome previous obstacles to its implementation. The mechanism will operate under a new central lending system managed by Misr Clearance, designed to ensure transparency and competition among lenders and borrowers, including brokerage firms.
