Egypt food prices show mixed trends in rice and vegetable markets
Food commodity prices in Egypt have shown varied movements across rice and vegetable markets.
Rice paddy prices are currently ranging between 14,000 and 16,500 EGP per ton, depending on whether the grain is wide or thin. White rice prices average approximately 24 EGP per kilo for loose thin-grain rice and 30 EGP for loose wide-grain rice. The market is currently transitioning as old crop stocks deplete and the new harvest is expected in September.
In the vegetable market, prices have fluctuated significantly. Tomato prices decreased by 2.94 EGP to reach 20.13 EGP per kilo, and onion prices saw a slight decline to 14.45 EGP. Conversely, potato prices rose by 1.62 EGP to 22.72 EGP, and green beans saw a substantial increase of 6.72 EGP per kilo.
