Egypt football team eyes AFCON 2027 after historic World Cup 2026 run
The Egypt national football team, under coach Hassam Hassan, reached the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup – its best ever performance. Building on that success, the squad will hold a closed training camp in September to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Egypt’s qualifying group will face Angola and South Sudan in the first two match windows (21 Sept‑6 Oct 2026) and later meet Malawi, Angola and South Sudan again in 2027. The AFCON finals are scheduled for June‑July 2027 and will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The team’s recent friendly victories over Saudi Arabia, Russia and a draw with Spain were highlighted as signs of strong form heading into the upcoming competitions.
