Egypt government denies fertilizer shortages and price hikes

The Egyptian Cabinet's media center has issued a statement addressing rumors regarding shortages and price increases for subsidized agricultural fertilizers. Following consultations with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, officials confirmed that subsidized fertilizers remain available and prices are fixed at 4,500 Egyptian pounds per ton.

The Ministry emphasized that no new price increases have been approved, aiming to maintain price stability and reduce the financial burden on farmers. To prevent manipulation and ensure support reaches eligible recipients, the government is implementing strict distribution controls, including the use of the Smart Farmer Card and enhanced governance systems.

During the summer season, more than 18 million bags of fertilizer were distributed. Specific costs noted include 290 Egyptian pounds for a bag of urea and 285 Egyptian pounds for a bag of nitrates, inclusive of all costs.
